It just takes one moment to figure out what one exactly wants to accomplish in their life and once they do, any amount of self-doubt goes flying out the window. So, when an ex-account manager -cum-furniture consultant listened to her heart in starting a furniture couture brand 4 years ago, she probably did the right thing. The Pink Chair is not your run-of-the-mill customised furniture boutique; it’s a way to usher fashion into the living rooms, to add a zing to those little reading nooks, to quirk up the siesta zones, and to bring in a little bit of one’s personality to their home. Komal Sandhu, the proud owner of this lovely Bangalore-based venture is a talented woman who loves experimenting with colours, textures, patterns, and designs to create unique statement pieces for homes. Her previous stints with a New Zealand based boutique furniture store came in quite handy when she embarked upon this new journey. We have all seen umpteen number of accent chairs online or in stores – Komal sees them differently. She weaves style, quirk, class, comfort, character, textures, and colours with aplomb to create elegant pieces that take up the décor quotient of any home by several notches. I was gobsmacked with the wonderful job she has done for her loyal clientele!

This beige Howard sofa with short arms looks extremely classy against the sharp white backdrop and a black checkered floor. And this electric blue Tuxedo style piece with high backrest and arms looks every bit luxurious and is offset brilliantly against the floral grey and yellow wallpaper. Both customised for an upscale hotel in Bangalore.

Wouldn’t you just love to sink into this really exuberant Warwick with a high backrest, ample armrests, and a colour-coordinated foot stool by the poolside, sip that cool martini, and get lost in pages of your favourite book? Komal has played around with effervescence and mixed and matched solids, Damask, and zigzag prints that complement the canary yellow couch in the living room really well.

The idea of starting a furniture couture brand germinated in Komal’s mind when she shifted her base back to India and was looking at doing up her home with smart furniture; but a complete lack of mid-range priced quality and customised accent chairs and well-defined sofas in the Indian market got her thinking. There’s an interesting anecdote behind the name of her venture: she had once designed a quirky little pink chair for her home which gave her the inspiration that pink hues can be beautifully incorporated in home decor. Hence, the name.

Komal created a melange of seating options for one of her clients which includes a uniquely designed Orange tufted Carlton chair (unique because she has mixed leather with printed fabric), an Elliot chair in vivid green and blue floral prints, and an Abbey styled settee in blue and green zigzag patterns. Quite a few head-turners there!

Komal loves working with all kinds of textures and patterns, but English checks, embossed chenille, and Jacquard captivate her imagination like no other. And every piece designed by her is infused with a lot of love, creativity, colours, and panache. So, whether its the yellow-grey polka dot Ashley you loved or the floral blue & grey/ black& grey Ascots you longed for, the ‘Ikatised’ orange-magenta Arthur that took your breath away, or the turquoise Piccadilly you dreamed about in your living room, The Pink Chair will leave you enthralled with its vivid renditions!

Komal Sandhu is accessible via her FB page The Pink Chair and also via email at info.thepinkchair@gmail.com. Here’s wishing her all the best for mesmerising us with her bespoke furniture in the future!
