The world is slowly getting back on its feet, although with a lot of caution. And the way things are going on with this pandemic, everything that we used to consider as normal, will not be normal anymore. Its time to hit the reset button.
Today, we are going to yet another delightful abode, that of Isha and Suresh in Jammu. Spread over a massive area of 8100 sq. ft, this home has been built with utmost love, care and attention to detail.
Isha is a homemaker, a very good one at that and a mother to two sons. Her husband Suresh is a businessman with his interests spanning the real estate, construction, and convention centres in the Jammu city. The family shifted into their current residence in 2019 and have been happily living in their home ever since.
Their home comprises four bedrooms with ample space for living and common areas and dedicated areas for entertaining their guests. A beautiful, vivid bounty of colorful petunias, periwinkles, and other perennials are the first views welcoming anyone who visits them. Isha has an amazing green thumb and has displayed her envying collection of plants in stunning ceramic planters, a well planned vertical garden, and a manicured lawn.
The green element makes its way from the garden to the porch and is generously splattered in the interiors of the home too.
Isha mentions that she never wanted a huge mansion, so they constructed their home on half plot of land and the other half has a backyard and front porch with a small garden.
Isha has tried to infuse her home with a vintage touch while keeping it a bit of both – traditional and contemporary. You can see the entire home decked up in antique style colonial teak wood furniture, peppered with vintage wall art and porcelain lamps and ginger jars, but Isha has added an element of vibrancy to all corners of her home making it her personal canvas. And decor boards on Pinterest were her go-to place while she went about designing the interiors of her home. She sourced all her customised furniture, drapes, and carpets from Chandigarh, while specific add-ons such as the living room chandelier was picked up from the by lanes of Chandini Chowk in New Delhi. Isha feels that her home is still a work-in-progress and plans to add more value to her residence post the lockdown.
The porch leads us into the formal living room and the family room, both of which have been done up in classy neutrals, with antique style furniture (totally digging the Queen Anne legs of the arm chairs) well accessorised by cushions, porcelain accents, and vintage wall art. However, its this pair of arm chairs upholstered in lime green and purple that is the cherry on top here. The formal living room is a good example of how neutrals and colours can be skillfully mixed and matched in a variety of prints and patterns.
The kitchen is the heart of this home and is set in gorgeous tones of turquoise and grey. Equipped with all modern amenities and a huge pantry, all the mess is managed in a small adjacent kitchen by the house cook, keeping the distressed kitchen island spic and span all the time. You will witness varying shades of blue in the subsequent pictures throughout the home.
The master bedroom is draped in soft shades of lavender and pink…and just who doesn’t love a gorgeous four poster bed with a detailed headboard? The arm chairs and bed end are upholstered in similar patterned floral fabrics and the paintings and accents echo a dreamy sequence throughout the room.
The common room on the ground floor is yet another stellar space designed by Isha in neutral and gold hues. The monotony here is broken by an armchair in a completely unrelated floral dark blue print which anchors one corner of this room.
The stairs from the family room lead up to the living room, the guest and the kids room on the first floor. One can easily notice how the staircase has been effectively used to display few of the many plants from Isha’s green heaven while the space below the stairs sports a beautiful credenza.
The living room on the first floor is very open, taking cues from the kitchen island and is designed in shades of turquoise with two massive areca palms which make it a very welcoming sight. I had my eyes set on those mid-century style arm chairs. Charmant, n’est-ce pas?
The guest room is also in a shade of blue, but this time its a take on cerulean blue. With the walls being all white, the accents and furniture are the classic blue and white ensemble with hints of gold here and there. Absolutely loved the white and turquoise Rajasthani style carved chest being used as a bed end here.
The kids bedroom has a vibrancy factor with sheer lime green curtains and furnishings. The layout is simply accessorised and suited for the boys of the house.
Isha and Suresh’s home in the picturesque Jammu city is a perfect take on how two or more styles of home designs can be seamlessly blended, with rich textures, a select shade spectrum, a bunch of elegant prints and patterns, and of course, lots of plants. Their home is a testimony to the fact that true style doesn’t mean blindly imitating trends but creating one’s own using a little bit of thought and imagination.
